In March 2007, at the World Congress held in Seoul, South Korea, the Item Numbering Association GS1-Tajikistan was admitted to the International Association GS1 with the assigned country number (prefix) 488. This means that all members who have joined the Item Numbering Association GS1-Tajikistan is assigned unique identification numbers starting with 488.
In 2007, under the project of the Consumers’ Union of the Republic of Tajikistan under the leadership of Bahodur Khabibov “Creation of a Bar Code System”, funded by the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (USAID) and the International Trade Center, as well as with the support of the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan Sharif Said, the National Item Numbering Association GS1-Tajikistan was founded.
In August 2007, the Association passed the necessary state registration in the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The Association GS1-Tajikistan is authorized by GS1 to use the EAN.UCC System in the republic as the official and sole representative of GS1.
The main source of financing the Association GS1-Tajikistan activities are admission and membership fees. A non-profit and public organization GS1-Tajikistan makes admission payment and annual contributions to GS1, and also keeps the association staff.
The Association began its active work in October 2007, when the first bar codes were issued.
Initially, the Association included three people. Currently, the Association employs 6 people, there is a representative office in the Sugd Region. Today, more than 160 companies operating in the Republic of Tajikistan are members of the Association.
The main goal of the Association is to ensure the possibility of using the GS1 system (formerly EAN*UCC) – the international product identification system the standards of which apply to the unique digital identification system, product numbering, bar coding and electronic data transmission – on the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Along with national organizations from more than 110 countries of the world, the Association is a member of GS1 – an international organization that provides development and application of the GS1 system.
The purpose of the website is to provide information about the Association, the standards and specifications of the GS1 system, aware business representatives about the capabilities of this system.
