Signed Memorandum of Understanding on establishing Business council South Korea- Central Asia

On June 29, 2020, in order to develop and strengthen trade, economic, scientific and technical ties on the basis of the principles of equality and mutual benefit in online format, an official ceremony of signing the Memorandum of Understanding between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Central Asian countries and the Korea International Trade Association was held (KITA) on the establishment of the Korea-Central Asia Business Council.

During this ceremony, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan Jumakhonzoda Jamshed Jurakhon noted the following: “I have no doubt that the gathered representatives of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry will not have to be convinced of the real benefits of cooperation in this format.

I think that the multilateral format of cooperation has good prospects, in the implementation of which we will have benefit from the long-standing successful experience in the bilateral format in the trade and economic sphere. ”

He also noted that cooperation in trade and economic cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and South Korea is beginning to produce great results.

The evidence is the fact that Tajik-Korean relations have acquired a new stage in the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries, the impetus of which is given by the mutual meetings of the heads of state of Tajikistan and South Korea.

It was noted that there was effective cooperation with the business community of South Korea. In order to promote the economic development of the Republic of Tajikistan, expand economic and trade relations with partners of the Republic of Korea, attract investments and create joint ventures, introduce domestic products and develop small and medium enterprises, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan and the regional CCIs of the Republic of Tajikistan of the Sughd and Khatlon Regions have met with representatives of enterprises of the Republic of Korea. As a result of the meetings, the South Korean business delegation for the first time participated in the international universal exhibition “Tajikistan – 2017” and a business forum with the participation of business circles from more than 10 countries, organized by the CCI of the Republic of Tajikistan with the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Beside that the South Korean side called this international exhibition an important factor in the further expansion of multifaceted cooperation. Also in 2018, the South Korean business delegation visited Tajikistan to participate in the Tajikistan-2018 International Universal Exhibition.

In addition, in a short period, we were able to organize visits of several business missions by representatives of large companies from South Korea. The main purpose of the visit of the leaders of South Korean companies was to study the investment opportunities of Tajikistan, as well as to establish direct business contacts with Tajik colleagues and determine directions for future cooperation. During the visits of delegations, visits to the Free Economic Zones of the Republic of Tajikistan were organized in order to familiarize themselves with the activities of a number of manufacturing enterprises operating there. At the end of his speech, Jumakhonzoda Jamshed encouraged his colleagues to use all the opportunities for cooperation in a multilateral format, where the main focus should be on joining joint efforts to attract the private sector of Central Asia and South Korea to international trade, developing foreign markets by mobilizing large-scale external investment in the economy of our countries; practical implementation of the program to support export business activities and training business personnel in priority sectors of the economy, using modern mechanisms such as IT technologies, electronic commerce, leasing, innovative technologies, and production cooperation may be key. And the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan is ready for a new format of cooperation and is open for dialogue.
