36th session of the General Assembly of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCIA)

On August 5, 2020, the 30th Joint Online Meeting of the Board of Directors and the 36th Session of the General Assembly of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCIA) were held. The event was attended by over 60 participants from the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states.

The event was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry  of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Odil Sangov.

Participants discussed the candidacy of the new president of Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Agriculture, which was approved for a new period (2020 BC. E., 2024 BC. E.) To replace the late His Highness Sheikh Saleh Abdullah Kamel, the former president ICCIA.The former president has dedicated his life to serving the Islamic economy. He was President of the Islamic Chamber from 2005 until his death. He reorganized the organization and amended its charter, and then dynamically led it to new heights of recognition and service to the Islamic Ummah. He was highly respected in all philanthropic circles and generously supported many charitable causes. He has also been a pioneer in various fields of economic and commercial business including media, Islamic banking, real estate construction and other sectors through his world renowned group of companies and institutions. The late President of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry spared no effort, money and time to promote and develop the Islamic Chamber and place it at the center of international attention, as an institution serving the interests of the private sector not only in the Islamic world, but also in the interests of Muslim minorities in non-Islamic countries. Sheikh Saleh Kamel – the late President of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Agriculture, was also the head of the General Council of Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions.

The third Chairman of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA) was appointed by acclamation by His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Saleh Kamel.

During the event, the participants also discussed the current goals for the development of trade, mutual investment and economic interaction between countries during a pandemic.

Participants and Members of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry noted the importance of improving the investment climate in the OIC region and promoting private sector development and diversification, both at the regional and national levels, and also approved the draft specialized councils of the Islamic Chamber and empowering the Secretary General to establish them.

It was announced that the Islamic Chamber intends to launch a project leading to the creation of a group of “specialized councils” to achieve several main objectives, which are part of its core tasks, which would contribute to the desired development of the private sector in the Islamic world, thereby increasing their contribution to sustainable socio-economic development.
