On the sidelines of the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan on Trade and Economic Cooperation, held on May 21–22, 2026, in Baku, a bilateral meeting took place between the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan, Rahmonalizoda Farhodshoh Rahmonali, and the Chairman of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (KOBİA), Orkhan Mammadov.
During the meeting, F. R. Rahmonalizoda stated that thanks to the friendly and constructive policies of the two heads of state — the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Ilham Aliyev — economic relations between the two countries have entered a new strategic phase. It was noted that the core foundation of cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan and KOBİA is the Memorandum of Understanding signed on April 5, 2023.
The parties praised the high growth rates of bilateral trade turnover in 2025 and its continued expansion in the first quarter of 2026, noting that a vast amount of unused economic potential still exists between the two sides.
The Chairman of the Chamber invited his counterpart to establish joint ventures in pharmaceuticals, light industry, and agricultural processing within the Republic of Tajikistan, particularly inside the Free Economic Zones, utilizing preferential investment and tax regimes.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their mutual interest in exchanging experience, organizing business trips for entrepreneurs, and implementing joint projects in the private sector.
